Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is relatively new, opened to the public on 17th February 2007. It contains a zoo and botanical garden and covers an area of 280 acres. As the name implies, it is located near the township of Lok Kawi, and is approximately 20km from Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah. There are over 100 species of mammals and birds in the park. Many of them are native to the island of Borneo. The highlight of the park, for many at least, would be the orang utan and proboscis monkey. Other animals on display are the Malayan Tiger, Malayan Sun Bear (Beruang Madu), Sumatran Rhinoceros, Wild Cattle (Tembadau), Borneo Elephant (Gajah Borneo), Sambar Deer (Rusa), Gibbons, Barking Deer (Kijang), Hornbills (Enggang), Clouded Leopard and many more. The park is rather large, so it can easily take 2-3 hours. The walking path are mostly exposed, so it can get pretty hot on a sunny day. Remember to apply some sun block, or bring your umbrella.
